On Thursday, Jan. 4, The Student Alumni Association hosted its annual discussion panel with alumni who currently attend college. The panel allowed students to listen and seek advice from college-attending alumni about their experiences in college thus far and to ask direct questions about their college life. Five alumni from four different colleges came to speak about their own experiences, providing students with alumni who participate in various activities at their colleges.
The panel is typically held in early January when Marksmen return after their winter break, but college students are still in town for their extended winter break. Student Alumni Association Co-President Raja Mehendale was one of the main organizers of the discussion this year and has been a part of the Student Alumni Association since his freshman year.
“We [Student Alumni Association] email guys that we think are contributing positively to their colleges,” Mehendale said. “A lot of those guys are extremely eager to come back and speak and share their college experience with upper schoolers.”
Mehendale shared his experiences and thoughts after listening to the panel.
“One of the members in the panel, Anthony Andrews ‘20, played football at Yale his first and second year and then decided to quit the team because he wasn’t enjoying it as much as he thought he would,” Mehendale said. “However, he was still able to thrive on campus, so it reminded me to go to a place where not only I can excel in athletics, but also in academics and social life.”
