It has been almost five years since a tornado struck campus and left the tennis team without courts to practice on.
The tennis team practices every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in various locations such as Hockaday, Brook Hollow Golf Club and T Bar M Camps and Retreats.
Head Coach Cameron Hillier has taken on the task of team communication and has adjusted to the lack of an appropriate court accordingly.
“We just have a lot of moving parts instead of saying ‘hey, practice as usual at the courts,’” Hillier said. “The guys have been really good at being flexible.”
Hillier has also appreciated Hockaday’s generosity, as they have allowed the team to use their courts for games.
“This season Hockaday has been our home court, and they’ve been really nice to share with us,” Hillier said. “It has been a lot of fun, actually.”
During games, the Hockaday tennis team plays their match while the Lions play theirs, which has provided an entertaining environment with coed duel matches. Hillier believes this to be a unique experience and wishes to extend these matches into years to come.
