Noah Cathey ‘24 is at the center of his communities.
Whether he’s guiding the basketball team to a well-fought victory in Spencer Gym, dedicating countless hours to the Marksmen yearbook or orchestrating Marksmen Multicultural Night with the IDLC, Cathey’s leadership can be seen all across campus.
And recently, Cathey has been a recipient of the Pearls of the Ivy Foundation’s Adrienne Thomas Jones Excellence in Community Involvement Award for his notable community service.
The foundation, entering its 13th year of service, gifts scholarships to high school students who have earned recognition through their dedication to improving the communities they are a part of, and it also offers additional support to other non-profits centered around community work. Cathey has been awarded the Adrienne Thomas Jones Award and a scholarship worth $2000 for his commitment to community involvement and academic excellence.
Cathey, always striving to improve and impact the places and people around him, expresses his love for his communities through service, which he believes is an essential duty that comes with being a member of society.
“I think the purest form of love is working to make (a community) better,” Cathey said. “If you love a person, or a school or a community it is your responsibility to make it the best version of itself, and my family has instilled that value (in me) that it’s important to serve.”
Cathey will attend Morehouse College in Atlanta next year, where he hopes to continue making a difference through his work.
“Service is a big part of the Morehouse mission, so I know that I’ll have that chance to continue my efforts,” Cathey said. “I’m going in with an open mind, but I have no doubt that I will continue to hope to impact my community when I go to college and beyond.”
