What are black holes? What is the shape of our universe? How much impact does the gravitational force from another planet have on Earth?
These are some big questions, but the Physics Club, led by senior Surya Dinesh, hopes to get to the bottom of them. The returning club aims to enhance people’s understanding of how the world works. The club meets on Thursday afternoons, and it covers topics ranging from special relativity to music physics. Rather than focusing on the more technical aspects of physics, Dinesh plans on making the meetings as engaging as possible for newcomers.
“This year, I’m planning to shift the club’s focus,” Dinesh said, “I know that I have the knowledge to teach people a little bit of interesting physics, rather than spend time working on dry problems.”
In addition, Dinesh plans on also having its members compete in annual physics competitions.
“We run the F=ma competition cycle every year,” Dinesh said, “We occasionally participate in other competitions, such as the AAPT Physics Bowl.”
All in all, he hopes to revitalize interest in Physics Club, hoping that people can finally see physics as more than just a school subject.
