DFW Metroplex receives two inches of snow, with more expected on Friday

Schools across the Dallas – Forth Worth (DFW) metroplex were shut down on Thursday as the region received roughly two inches of snow starting Thursday morning. This snow is forecasted to turn into rain later in the day as the temperature rises, but then turn into snow again once temperatures fall on Thursday night. Several school districts have already announced closure for Friday, but most districts are waiting for updated weather predictions and conditions before making a decision. In total, up to five inches of snow is possible for the greater DFW metroplex.

Forecast updates to winter storm warning for DFW metroplex

The National Weather Service updated its winter storm watch to a winter storm warning, signaling that snow and winter weather are expected for much of the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex (DFW) area. However, the forecast shifted again, with two to four inches of snow expected for the warning area as well as an additional mix of one to two inches of snow and sleet, according to the National Weather Service. Also, the brunt of the weather is expected to arrive Thursday night into Friday morning.

Recent weather reports have stated that the North Texas region, including the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex (DFW) area could receive around three inches of snow on Thursday. These new reports also detail the potential for rain opposed to snow if the temperature rises above the freezing point.
