The National Weather Service updated its winter storm watch to a winter storm warning, signaling that snow and winter weather are expected for much of the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex (DFW) area. However, the forecast shifted again, with two to four inches of snow expected for the warning area as well as an additional mix of one to two inches of snow and sleet, according to the National Weather Service. Also, the brunt of the weather is expected to arrive Thursday night into Friday morning.

Recent weather reports have stated that the North Texas region, including the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex (DFW) area could receive around three inches of snow on Thursday. Earlier today, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for most of North Texas starting Wednesday night and going into Friday afternoon. These new reports also detail the potential for rain opposed to snow if the temperature rises above the freezing point.

Starting on Thursday, Jan. 9, the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex (DFW) area is projected to receive nearly six inches of snow, marking the start of true winter weather for the region. After a relatively warm December, the new year has brought freezing temperatures and likely chances for snow, with several weather reporting agencies predicting nearly a 100% chance of snow on Jan. 9. While it is not certain, schools across the DFW area may be closed on Thursday and Friday due to hazardous driving conditions.
