Junior Duff McKay announced his verbal commitment to Indiana University for golf earlier this March. McKay, a highly recruited golf prospect in the Class of 2026, has gone through a long process to reach his decision ever since he became eligible to be recruited during the summer after his sophomore year.
“It was definitely a super long process,” McKay said. “They weren’t on my radar at first, just because of how far away they are. But I always knew that it was a really good school with a great golf program and great golf coaches.”
McKay was also drawn to the college since his brother attends a boarding school in Indiana. After many discussions and a few visits to the campus, McKay was impressed with the school and their golf facilities.
“They have one of the best home courses in college golf, the Pfau Course. It’s unbelievable” McKay said. “Their facilities and their coaches are really great. I really liked everything about the school… so it was a combination of four or five factors.”
Throughout all of the recruitment process, McKay’s main goal has stayed the same: to keep playing good golf, and try not to think about college recruitment or coaches while he is playing.
“Back when I was younger, I used to get kind of freaked out and a little nervous about it,” McKay said. “But this past summer, I embraced it and just let it fly.”
