The Lions’ varsity football team hosted John Paul II on Friday, Sep. 26. After the defense forced a three and out to start the game, the Lions’ offense got on the board early when junior running back David Dickson scored on a 19-yard touchdown run. After another stop, the Lions offense fumbled the ball back to the Cardinals. However, the defense stood strong and got a key stop when cornerback Ford Robinson and linebacker Zac Yarckin combined to blow up a fake field goal. The offense then marched down the field on an efficient, seven play drive, capped off by a touchdown run by junior Braden Scott. After another stop by the Lions defense, wide receiver Archer Wilburn returned a punt 24 yards, with an additional 15-yard penalty tacked on for a late hit by the Cardinals. On the the very next play, quarterback Blaize Schuhmacher connected with senior David McAtee III, which gave the Lions an early 21-0 lead. The Cardinals eventually scored to cut the lead to 14, but the Lions continued to attack, with Dickson scoring his second touchdown of the game to give the Lions a 28-7 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Dickson finished off his stellar performance with his third touchdown of the game. Sophomore Donnell Dickson, David’s younger brother, added two more touchdowns for a total of five touchdowns by the Dickson family. Finally, quarterback Dustin Sayah and sophomore Charlie Aisner connected for the eighth and final Lions’ touchdown of the night for a final score of 58-7. The Lions improve to 4-1 on the season, and will travel to Houston next week to take on the Kinkaid Falcons in the first conference game of the year.
