On Oct. 19, more than 2,600 protests with over 5 million attendees were organized across the country. The protesters flooded the streets with one clear message to the Trump presidency: “No More Kings.”
The protests were organized in response to many actions the current administration has taken, including immigration raids, detention centers for immigrants, tariffs on multiple countries and gerrymandering.
In the capital, thousands of protesters joined in the streets with signs displaying phrases such as “No Kings” and “No Tyrants.” According to NPR, many of these protesters claimed they were defending America in a peaceful act against a tyrant.
The government’s response came shortly after the protests, with House Speaker Mike Johnson saying they were a “hate America rally.”
Although many members of the government began to call the protests violent and dangerous, there have been no reports of crimes by the protesters. On the other hand, NPR reported that some people were wearing animal costumes such as frogs to symbolize peace and unity.
After the protests on Oct. 19, President Trump posted a 19 second AI video depicting him on a fighter jet with a crown dropping feces on protesters. The video sparked outrage online and the White House has still not responded as to why the video was posted.
