Here are some of the most notable stories of the month:

U.S.-Iran ceasefire on the brink as peace talks continue (April 21, 2026) A two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran has just been extended as both sides struggle to come to an agreement. Even though Pakistan has acted as a mediator to bring both sides to a conclusion, a resolution is still in the works. President Trump has warned that if both countries do not come to a deal, fighting will resume. For more information click here.

Japan ends postwar arms export ban in historic shift (April 21, 2026) Japan’s cabinet voted Tuesday to scrap its longstanding ban on lethal weapons exports. This act marks a major break from the pacifist policy the country has maintained since World War II. These new rules open the door for Japan to sell fighter jets, missiles, and destroyers to up to 17 different allied nations. London arson attacks on jewish sites labeled as Iranian proxy activity (April 19–20, 2026) British counter-terror police are investigating whether a series of arson attacks on synagogues and Jewish community sites across northwest London are connected to Iranian proxy groups. No one has been injured, but the U.K.’s chief rabbi has warned of an increasing “campaign of violence and intimidation” against British Jews. Several arrests have been made. Chinese robot beats human half-marathon world record in Beijing (April 19, 2026) A humanoid robot named “Lightning,” built by Chinese smartphone maker Honor, won a Beijing half-marathon in 50 minutes and 26 seconds on Sunday. The robot’s time bested the previous world record by nearly seven minutes. The race featured over 300 robots from more than 100 teams, and is seen as a milestone in China’s push to dominate the global robotics industry. For more information click here. 

Cuba and U.S. hold surprise talks in Havana (April 21, 2026) Cuba confirmed Monday that U.S. diplomats visited the island earlier this month. This marks the U.S. first visit since 2016. The U.S. diplomats traveled to the island for talks amid an ongoing American energy blockade. Cuba is calling for the blockade to be lifted, while the U.S. is pressing Havana on political prisoners and economic reform. No agreements have been announced. For more information click here. 

NASA declares Artemis II a success and sets sights for moon landing 2027 (April 10–21, 2026) NASA’s Orion spacecraft completed a 694,481-mile journey around the Moon and back, splashing down off the coast of San Diego on April 10. Initial post-mission assessments showed that the heat shield, a major concern after issues on the previous Artemis I mission, performed significantly better. NASA says it is now preparing hardware and teams to launch Artemis III in 2027 to prepare for lunar surface missions beginning in 2028.For more information click here.
