The Lion’s lacrosse team has had a year marked by both strong performance on the field and growth from underclassmen who have stepped into large roles this season. From a fun spring break trip to Florida to the SPC tournament in Dallas, the team has made great strides forward.
“We’ve really started to understand what it means to win a lacrosse game,” head varsity lacrosse coach Trey Whitty said. “We really found our identity after spring break.”
Senior captain Eduardo Mousinho, who suffered a broken collarbone and was injured for a majority of the season, has had to watch the team’s growth from the sidelines, but he has seen how younger players have stepped up and embraced new opportunities. He summarized the season in one word: growth.
“Many underclassmen stepped up,” Mousinho said. “Trust the players, let them show you what they can do.”
The Lion’s are now hoping to capitalize on their growth. With a healthier team and a full season of experience and growth, the lacrosse team now prepares for the THSLL state championships, which will begin May 3.
