After a lose to Trinity Valley ended the volleyball team’s quest to defend their championship, the Lions lost to Greenhill in the consolation bracket, 3-1. Even though the Lions had a disappointing run in the playoffs, the team competed hard the entire season despite injuries to several key players. The program will return many important players next year as they look to improve upon this year 14-1o record.

The Lions’ cross country team finished third in the 4A division of the SPC Championship race at Spring Creek Park on Saturday, Nov. 8. Six Lions’ runners ran personnel bests, led by Jackson Bailey, who placed sixth overall with a time of 16 minutes, 42.8 seconds. Freshman Nicholas Cho finished 12 seconds behind Bailey for eight place as both runners earned All-SPC honors. With Ward Beasley, Lawson Boutros and William Cho all finishing in the top 25, the Lions finished with 65 team points in a very strong team outing. The team greatly improved over the course of the season, and nine out of ten runners that qualified for the championship race will return next year.

The Lions’ volleyball team opened their SPC Championship tournament with a heartbreaking loss to the Trinity Valley School Trojans on Friday, Nov. 7. In the regular season, the teams split their two matchups, with the Trojans winning an early season contest and the Lions sweeping the conference matchup. After a first round bye, the Lions started the match slow, dropping the first set 26-24 after a strong run to end the game. In the second set, the Lions pulled out a close 25-23 win, but then dropped the third game by a score of 25-21. Facing elimination, the Lions dominated the fourth set, 25-21, to set up a winner-take-all fifth set. Only playing to 15 points, the teams were deadlocked to start the set, but the Lions were unable to keep up and fell by a score of 15-10.

Although the Lions are no longer in the hunt for the SPC Championships, the team is still competing in the consolation bracket. They will take on either Greenhill or Episcopal High School on Saturday at 11:00 AM.
