Lions’ lacrosse celebrated Senior Night with a blowout win over the Frisco Black Bears, 18-5. At halftime, the Lions honored three seniors, Weston Chance, Michael Jimenez and Rocco Renda, who have made a tremendous impact on the program.
The Lions came out hot, as Jacob Santosuosso scored off an assist from Mac Saye on the first possession. Just a minute later, Chance tallied his first goal of the night, followed by Gabe Masino winning the faceoff and going all the way to the net as the Lions took a quick 3-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. Santosuosso registered his second score of the night halfway through the first period, but the Black Bears would finally get on the board to keep the Lions’ lead at three. However, Renda would force a turnover and catch the Bears out of position as the Lions quickly answered back. The Lions finished the quarter with an onslaught as the team found the back of the net three times in the final minute and a half, putting the Lions in total control up 8-1 to finish the quarter. In the second period, the game slowed to a possession-based stalemate, but Saye and Renda both registered their second goals as the team entered the half up eight.
Coming out of the break, Chance and Saye took over the Lions offense, tallying six straight scores as the Black Bears struggled to contain the attack. With a 16-3 lead heading into the fourth, the Lions cruised as Santosuosso finished his hat trick and Grant Kennington put the finishing touch on a dominant 18-5 win. Although Jimenez missed the game with injury, Renda and Chance combined for seven goals as the seniors showed out in their final home game. With an SPC Championship already in hand, the team will play their final district game against Rockwall on April 24 before THSLL playoffs start in early May.
